Everything You Should Know About Taking Your Utah Electrical Continuing Education

    EnglishBy EnglishAugust 6, 2024No Comments4 Mins Read11 Views

You may not like the idea of continuing your electrical education as someone who’s already in the field, but trust us, it goes a long way. Not only will it help you retain your license, but it can also be your bargaining chip when looking to advance in your career or bag rewarding opportunities.

Here’s what you want to know about continuing education (CE) for your electrical license in Utah.

    Renewal Requirements

As an electrician licensee, you are obligated to renew your license every even year by November 30th. Within this period, you are supposed to take continuing education (CE) classes as part of the requirements for renewing your license.

Since you’ll more than likely have to look for a CE provider in Utah to facilitate your CE requirements, it’s paramount to ensure that they offer courses that are approved by the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL). Your best bet when taking your Utah Electrical Continuing Education course would be to register with a state-approved provider like RocketCert.

When planning for your CE course, keep the following guidelines in mind:

    • You’re required to complete 16 hours of continuing education every 2 years.
    • Of the 16 hours, 12 should be dedicated to core courses.
    • 8 hours dedicated to core courses should be on the National Electrical Code (NEC).
    • 4 hours of the core courses you’ll take have to be dedicated to NFPA 70E (safety).
    • The remaining 4 hours can be on NEC topics or other DOPL-approved topics.
    • You’re supposed to send the proof of CE completion by the renewal deadline.

The above requirements apply to electrical apprentices, journeyman electricians, and master electricians.

Steps to Completing Your CE Course

It’s always a great idea to prepare to plan for your continuing education as early as you can. Here’s what you should know about the crucial steps for attaining the required CE hours:

    1. Select and Purchase the Appropriate Courses

To begin with, you will want to select a continuing education provider that you are comfortable with, based on the services they offer. Next, use the state guide to pick and purchase the necessary courses. Most CE providers will have pre-selected the courses covering the required topics depending on your profession, but you can always confirm that for your peace of mind.

    2. Complete the Course

The good thing about taking your continued education classes is you can do that entirely online, at the pace that suits you best. That way, you will incorporate your CE classes into your normal life schedule rather than planning your work and life plans around your CE schedule.

The courses you take will often include quizzes that you have to pass to earn your completion certificate, so keep that in mind.

    3. Obtain Your Certificate

Once you have completed the courses and the various assessments, you should get a certificate of completion from the course provider. This certificate is usually important for your records and reporting your CE hours to the state.

    4. Report Your Hours

CE providers will, in most cases, report your completed hours directly to the Utah DOPL after you’re through, but if they don’t it’s upon you to do so. In any case, always ensure that you report your hours before the renewal deadline to avoid inconveniences.

    5. Submit the Renewal Application

Once you’re sure you’ve met the CE requirements, the next step would be to submit your renewal application to the DOPL and pay the required renewal fee ($74).

CE Course Provider You Can Trust

Continuing education as an electrical license holder is a vital step requirement if you want to retain your license. However, you shouldn’t just acquire CE hours to stay compliant with Utah’s DOPL requirements. Taking your CE course should also be about enhancing your competence and reliability as a professional.

By getting your courses from a top-ranking provider like RocketCert, you can be sure to get an assortment of courses that are aimed at helping you advance in your career with ease. So, sign up today and get started on a journey of success!
